Bulgaria (part 1) - August 2019

Family holidays always provide a few birding opportunities! This was our second trip to Sunny Beach, Bulgaria and all of the photos below are from in and around the hotel grounds.
Roller - taken from the moving bus from the airport!

Ruddy Shelduck - High flyover! Didn't realise these were this species until I got home and viewed the photos!

Alpine Swift - Not as many seen as previous years, but still common over head most days

Pallid Swift - Didn't manage a decent photo this year.

White Stork - Only three decent flocks seen, the highest count was over 5000 birds!

Yellow-legged Gull - common around the hotel and opportunists like our Herring Gulls!

Red-rumped Swallow - common, breeding on the hotel

Lesser Grey Shrike - Only saw the one and a new bird for me!

Male Red-backed Shrike - very common even in the hotel grounds

Northern Wheatear

Another male Red-backed Shrike

And a female Red-backed Shrike
